History of the Devotion
The visible grace and smile of God has been upon the beautiful city
of Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico, from the moment that He gave the city His presence through
the small image of Jesus, Santo Nino de la Salud, a tiny wood carving of a smiling child.
In 1939, this Image began to be venerated in the home of a young girl, Rosa Maria
Guadalupe Calderone, nick-named Lupita (later known as "Mother Lupita") who had
received the statue as a present. When asked, the Child Jesus granted very special favors
to members of Lupita's family and later to many neighbors and friends. The title, Santo
Nino de la·Salud, Holy Child of Good Health, derives from the physical and spiritual
nature of the favors granted. The Archbishop of Morelia approved private devotion to the
Infant (Child) Jesus of Good Health, and later, in 1942, the statue was crowned and public
devotion was approved. The Novena to the Child Jesus of Good Health received Church
approval in 1946. April 21st is the Santo Nino's Feast Day, but the last Sunday in April
is celebrated as His feast day in Morelia. Nine days before the celebration, the Novena is
held in the Cathedral. The evening of the last day, Saturday, a three mile parade
processes from the Cathedral to the Santo Nino's Church with the pilgrim statue carried on
a decorated float. This parish church of Santo Niño Jesus De La Salud was consecrated in
1963 and houses the original miraculous statue as well as the replica pilgrim statue. At
the direction of the Archdiocese of Morelia, the Missionaries of the Infant (Child) Jesus
of Good Health, founded by Mother Lupita, promote the Devotion and carry Jesus'
message of salvation to all peoples by means of the Pilgrim Statue. Contact:

Prayer to the Holy Child of Good
Health
Little Child Jesus of Good Health, my only Treasure! In You alone do I find the
consolation I need in the trials and tribulations which beset me. By the sorrow suffered
by Your most holy Mother in the prophecy of holy Simeon, I beseech You, sweet Child, to
pour on my disconsolate spirit the sweetness of Your divine consolations, and to heal the
sorrows which afflict my soul. Amen. Back to Contents
Prayer to the Infant
Jesus of Good
Health
Little Infant Jesus of Good Health, God of Love born to suffer for me! In You
above all do I find the courage and strength I need in the trials and troubles
that weigh so heavily upon me. By the sorrows of Your Most Holy Mother, I
implore You to lighten the burdens of my soul with Your holy consolations and to
relieve my bodily infirmities with Your merciful kindness, if it so pleases the
Will of our Father in Heaven. Amen. Back to Contents
Prayer for Life
Precious Holy Infant Jesus, we come before You
with all the love within us and adore You. We praise You as Creator of all life.
We praise, bless and thank You for loving us so much. Your love wills for us the
health which only You can give: health of body, health of mind and health of
spirit.
Protect us from all the evils and temptations that harm that health. We especially lift to You the evil of abortion this day. Protect from death those precious infants whose lives are in danger. Protect from mental and physical anguish those mothers who would choose this destruction for themselves and their babies.
Heal and protect our society that permits this evil to flourish. Make of us a people who cherish all human life from its conception to its natural end.
By your grace, create within us longing, openness and surrender to Your most holy Will so that when our natural life has ended we will share with You the eternal life You have prepared for us. We ask this in Your most holy name, our Holy Infant Child Jesus of Good Health.

Blessed Child Jesus of Good Health
Blessed Child Jesus, protect us from all worry and despair as
we turn this health problem over to you. It confounds and confuses us and is
beyond our understanding.
Steer us away from the net of depression and hopelessness cast by the devil. Help us to recognize that all health is a MIRACLE as mysterious as life itself. Give us the courage to ask for that miracle again and the faith to believe in it.
Divine Source of all Healing, fill us with our fighting spirit. Inspire us with your youthful joy. Return to us that most precious gift of our childhood, TRUST that "A little child shall lead us…" beyond all explanation and understanding to restore (name) to health in body, mind and spirit, that is now, and ever shall be… a miracle. Amen.

Miraculous Infant Jesus of Good Health
Holy Infant Jesus of Good Health, I prostrate myself in spirit before Your Miraculous
Image and place, through the hands of Your dear Mother, my whole sick body, my mind and
heart and nerves. O Jesus, Who has said, "Ask and you shall receive, seek and you
shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you," through the intercession of Your
Mother Mary I ask for health. That we should not doubt in Your great healing power, cure
me, an unworthy sinner, for Your greater honor and glory. Through the hand of Your dearest
Mother, I place myself under Your healing power. Your unworthy child and servant... Back to Contents
A Prayer for the Blessing of
the Child Jesus
Divine Child, Jesus, from the first instant of Your being in the
flesh, Your glorious presence has been a redeeming blessing to all of mankind. Your
miraculous Hand is ever raised to bless those who come to You for help. May I, too, share
in the eternal blessing You had for Mary and Joseph, in the choicest blessing You had for
the shepherds who came to adore You and in the kingly blessing You had for the wise men
who brought You: gold, frankincense and myrrh? To express my profound and humble faith I
kneel before You and ask You, beseechingly, to raise Your mighty Hand and bless my
petition. Amen. Back to Contents
Novena to the Holy Child
Jesus of Good Health
Act of Contrition (to be recited once, at the start of the novena) .
Sweetest Child Jesus, through Your miraculous Image You desire to instill into our souls
devotion to Your sacred Childhood. Repentant for my sins, I kneel before You. I am
profoundly sorry for having offended You and hope never to sin again. Since You were born
in a desolate manger for my love, will You also be born by Your grace in my soul? Grant me
sincere contrition for my sins so that I may receive absolution for them in the tribunal
of penance through Your infinite mercy. Divine Child Jesus, by my sincere confession, make
me worthy of the graces I implore at Your feet. Above all, grant that I may gain eternal
salvation. Amen.
First Day. O Divine Child Jesus of Good Health, through the infinite love with which You became Man in the virginal womb of Mary for our health and eternal happiness, I beg You for the salvation of my soul by Your grace, and for the favor I am asking in this Novena. I am always resigned to accept whatever Your Will may be. (Conclude with daily prayers.)
Second day. O Child Jesus, most beautiful Child born of Your Immaculate Mother as the sun is born at dawn, You suffered with immense love the poverty of the manger and the inclemency of the weather for the sake of our salvation. Melt the coldness of my heart with the fire of Your Love and grant me (Petition) if it be Your holy Will. Amen. (Conclude with daily prayers.)
Third day. O Child Jesus, Sun of True Justice, You enlighten the souls and minds of mankind with Your light. You love the simple souls, Your little ones. Grant me the graces of simplicity and humility which You love to see in me, and grant me the favor that I ask. Amen. (Conclude with daily prayers.)
Fourth day. O Child Jesus, only Treasurer of Heaven and Earth, attracting all souls with the irresistible power of Your incomparable humility, teach me to despise the passing riches of this world and all that stands in the way of finding You; let me be like the three kings who came to the manger from far-away lands to adore You. Grant me, my Jesus, the special grace that I implore. Amen. (Conclude with daily prayers.)
Fifth day. O Child of Good Health, my Jesus, Who had to suffer persecution and exile shortly after birth, with Your grace show me the virtues I need in order to endure the persecutions of this life. I deserve punishment for all my sins. You, innocent and blessed Child in the arms of Your worried Mother and Foster Father, St. Joseph, had to go to Egypt to escape the cruelty of Herod. Grant that I may always flee from the infernal spirits who want to ruin my soul so I may be worthy of the special favor I tearfully implore before Your blessed Image. Amen. (Conclude with daily prayers.)
Sixth day. Child Jesus, my Love, only in You do I find the consolation I need in the trials that beset me. By the sorrows that Your most holy Mother suffered in the prophecy of holy Simeon, I beg You to pour on my sorrowful spirit the sweetness of Your divine consolation. My heart grows weak under the weight
of the sorrows that afflict my soul. One glance from Your divine eyes will heal my sufferings. Look at me, Child Jesus, grant me the help I ask and conform me to Your holy Will. Amen. (Conclude with daily prayers.)
Seventh day. Child Jesus, dear Treasure of my soul, in the three days You were away from Your holy Parents, they were filled with anguish because You were lost through no fault of theirs. Oh rich Treasure of Heaven, let me be diligent in always keeping close to You, avoiding all sin, which is the only cause for my losing You. Knowing the sorrow that brings me before Your Image, O Child of Good Health, grant me the special grace I ask if it is best for the salvation of my soul. Amen. (Conclude with daily prayers.)
Eighth day. O Incarnate Wisdom, Child of Good Health, Who astonished the doctors of the law with Your wise discourse, speak to me, O Lord, in the words of eternal life that I may be free of the ignorance which causes ruin of the soul. Grant me, together with the special grace I ask, the willing obedience I need to be Your loving disciple. Amen. (Conclude with daily prayers.)
Ninth day. Child Jesus, Model of Humility and Obedience, after caring for the work of Your Holy Father, You returned with Mary and Joseph to Your humble home in Nazareth and were subject to them as their most obedient Son. O Child Jesus, awaken in the children of our time Your sublime childhood virtues. Grant that the parents of this age may not neglect the careful education of their children according to the principles of our Catholic Faith, and grant me the special grace I so urgently implore. Amen. (Conclude with daily prayers.)
Daily Prayers to be said every day of the Novena.
Prayer to the Holy Child Jesus of Good Health. Divine Child, loving little Shepherd who
came from Heaven looking for Your dear sheep, not caring how arduous and tiring would be
the work of saving souls and giving Your last drop of blood to accomplish the task of our
redemption, open the ears of my soul so I may respond to Your grace and listen to Your
loving inspirations. I promise to surrender toYour call and to avoid all things which may
endanger my salvation being certain that I was not merely created for the pleasures of
this life. My destiny is most noble for You have created me for greater happiness. To
think that so often I have looked for the passing riches of this life! By Your infinite
mercy, forgive my stubborn resistance to Your call, my persistence in sin, and my
despicable weakness in not persevering in the resolutions I so often avowed but failed to
carry out. Help me, Lord Jesus, not to sadden Your divine Heart again. I promise to amend
my life and to seek the intercession of the ever-Virgin Mary, Your Mother, whom You gave
us for our Mother from the Cross. Amen.
Prayers to Our Blessed Mother. Immaculate Mother of the Child Jesus, sweetest Virgin Mary, our Mother, deign to present our supplications to your divine Son. We who are sinners do not deserve to be heard, but you, who are the Refuge of Sinners and Mother of Mercy, have never sent away those who seek your maternal protection. Always full of tenderness and clemency, you comfort the afflicted.
You are the Universal Mediatrix of all Graces. Your prayers to the divine Child are always heard because in you there was never a stain of sin. Take pity on us who are sinners, and for the love which you bear the divine Child, obtain from His divine Heart the graces we need. Mother of God pray for us poor exiled children; look down on us with your eyes of mercy and keep us ever close to your Immaculate Heart. Amen.
Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope; to thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us, and after this our exile show unto us the blessed. Fruit of thy womb, Jesus, O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
Pray for us, O holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let us pray: Almighty, everlasting God, Who, by the cooperation of the Holy Spirit Prepared the body and soul of the glorious Virgin Mother, Mary, to become the fit habitation of Your Son, grant that we who now rejoice in her commemoration may, by her gracious intercession, be delivered from all the evils that threaten us, and from everlasting death, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
Petitions (after each of the five petitions, recite one Our Father, one Hail Mary
and one Glory Be...).
Jesus, compassionate and merciful Child, hear my prayers and remedy my affliction.
Sweetest Hope of those who suffer, I place my sorrows before Your Sacred Heart.
Secure Refuge of the Needy, at Your divine feet I shed the tears of my afflicted heart.
Universal Consoler, Who in Your untiring mercy welcome us sinners who have recourse to
You, have mercy and hear me.
Health of our souls, Divine Healer, do not despise my supplications, but grant me the
graces I implore. Back to Contents

Triduum to the Infant Jesus
of Good Health
First, make an Act of Contrition - in your own words fell Jesus your sorrow for
your sins.
Preparatory Prayer. Sweet Infant Jesus, humbly I come to love and adore You and to share
with You my sorrows, feeling Certain that You will kindly grant me the help I need. For
with you there is nothing that remains impossible!
For love of us You took upon Yourself the fragility of our human flesh to save as from the slavery of sin and Satan. With confidence in Your loving goodness I utter Your own words in the Garden of Agony: "Lord, take this chalice away from me, yet not my will but Thine be done!"
You Who promised the Kingdom to the little ones, look upon one as little as me and turn my sorrows to tears of joy so that I may be all the more free to grow in Your loving friendship, which I pray I may have the happiness of enjoying eternally in Heaven. Amen.
First Day Prayer. Most loving Infant Jesus of Good Health, to Your compassionate Heart I confide my needs and my sorrows. You Who calmed the sea and the tempest, can also calm the anxieties of a troubled soul. You, Who are more desirous of my happiness than I ever could be myself, will know what is best for my happiness now and hereafter. If the favors I ask are not expedient for my soul's salvation, You will know how best to enable me to take up my cross beside You. Even now I feel an unspeakable joy within the depths of my soul that tells me You are graciously inclined to hear my pleas, even if not in the way I ask. Do accept, adorable Infant Jesus, from my grateful heart, the raptures of my profoundest gratitude. Amen. (Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be)
Second Day Prayer. Most merciful Infant Jesus of Good Health, to You I offer the feeble comfort of my loving sympathy in the sadness Your Heart must feel over our coldness and blindness. Mercifully grant that I may offend You less and love You more and be more worthy of Your comforting help in my afflictions of body and soul. You, Who suffered already from Your Baby Infancy in Bethlehem and in the Circumcision and the Flight into Egypt, will well understand the pleadings of a suppliant heart that knows no other saving Refuge but You! If it be Your holy Will, do grant me the blessings of health so that, with the chalice taken away or newly consecrated, I may serve You with a clean and pure body and soul on the sure road of happiness that leads to Your welcoming embrace at the gates of Paradise. Amen. (Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be)
Third Day Prayer. Most sovereign Infant Jesus of Good Health, to You I come like a penitent, sinful and sorrowful, but also like the sick and the lame who cried to You for mercy! For love of You I place the burden of my trials and sorrows upon the paten with the priest at the altar, offering them together with Your own precious Soul and Body for the glory of the Father and the Divine Majesty. There is such power in Your sweet name of Jesus and such tenderness in Your Infant Heart that I feel sure of every relief and cure, if You judge it to be beneficial for my present and my eternal health. No matter what designs You may have for me, dear Infant Jesus, I gladly submit myself to them with all my heart, for though Your ways are unsearchable, You always plan what is best for me in time and in eternity. Amen. (Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be)
Prayer to Jesus' Mother (say each day). Dear Mary, Mother of the Holy Infant, to you I plead to speak for me to your loving Child Whom we honor under the title of "Infant Jesus of Good Health." As you became His Mother in Bethlehem, you became also my Mother at the foot of the Cross of Calvary. As your heart grieved to see Him writhing in the agony of the Cross, so also look with pity upon me now when the cross of suffering seems to be more than I can bear. Regard not my sins, for I am resolved to grow like you in loving Jesus and keeping His every word and Commandment. Dear Mother of mine, do show your tender mercy for a repentant sinner who awaits only a favorable word of motherly benediction. With confidence I leave all in your hands, dear Mary, knowing that you will not despise my petitions but will speak lovingly to Jesus for me for the needs of this body and soul of mine. Amen. (3 Hail Marys, 1 Hail HolyQueen) Back to Contents

Infant Jesus, infinite and omnipotent God, through the joy that was
Yours at the time of Your birth, knowing that You came for the salvation of man...bring me

Thanksgiving to the
Holy Infant Jesus of Good Health
Holy Infant of Good Health, even in Your Infancy You do not cease to work wonders and even
make possible the impossible for those who come to You for Your availing aid. I, too, have
already felt the reality of Your constant help to those in distress; yet, as a finite
being, my gratitude would seem limited to You, O my Infinite God! Please then, accept the
humble and happy "thank You" I now offer for the granting of things I have asked
and the need of which almost led me to despair! All this through Your merits, O Holy
Infant Jesus of Good Health! Amen. Back to Contents

Prayer of
Thanksgiving to the Child Jesus of Good Health
Most divine Child Jesus of Good Health, You knowingly took on our
humanity with the cooperation of the most perfect creation and most holy Virgin, Mary. You
exalted humanity above the nature of the angels at the instant of Your incarnation.
Even in Your childhood You knowingly gave us the example of obedience. You Who are God, obeyed Your divine Father through the laws of nature and the authority of Your human mother, Mary, and human foster father, Joseph.
Even in Your childhood, You knowingly gave us the example of poverty. You Who are God, were born in time, in a humble cave. You grew up without material riches. In poverty, You lived, and in poverty, You died.
Even in Your childhood, You knowingly gave us the example of family unity, in a world created for the same unity of our humanity, accepting obedience despite people's division.
What incomparable and spontaneous love were shown in Your Divinity: to all appearances a baby boy wrapped in cloth; in reality, the Savior and supreme King of humanity! We return Your love with our adoration, gratitude and praise. We love, honor and thank You, Child Jesus, the Author of our spiritual and physical well-being, our Life, our Good Health, our Glory! In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Back to Contents

No colic is so painful, no fever so violent, no malady so dangerous, no peril so great, no tumor so malignant, no insanity so raving, no complaint so irritating, no assault of Satan so furious, no pestilence so infectious, no swelling so serious, as not to be dispelled or cured by this blessed Child. The Holy Child puts an end to enmities, frees prisoners, saves those who are condemned to death, brings obstinate sinners to repentance and blesses childless parents with offspring. In short, He is become all to all. - Author Unknown
