Our Lady of the Holy Spirit Center in Norwood, Ohio was originally built as a diocesan seminary known as Mount Saint Mary of the West. From 1923, through the 1970's, the seminary educated thousands of priests who served in Cincinnati and throughout the United States. Declining vocations forced the closing of the seminary and for more than a decade this splendid spiritual and architectural treasure was allowed to deteriorate.

In 1992, the facility was resurrected when it was reborn as Our Lady of the Holy Spirit Center, a place of refuge where priests, religious and lay persons could come for prayer and contemplation.

Today the Center is regaining its spiritual and physical grandeur. It is a place for the clergy - a place for directed spiritual guidance, a place for spiritual and physical renewal, a place for community with other priests, and for those who wish, a permanent residence.

The Center is also a place of spiritual development where lay persons can renew, strengthen and share their faith. It is a retreat center for youth and adult groups and a place that an individual can use as a haven of rest from the demands of the world. The opportunity for quiet prayer and contemplation is supplemented by a variety of worship services, devotions, spiritual and educational activities.

Your gift helps to extend the outreach of Our Lady of the Holy Spirit Center. While a strong foundation has been built, much remains to be done. The continued restoration of the Center is possible only with the help of dedicated people willing to give of themselves and their abilities. Adequate funding is essential to fully realize the goals of the Center.

Your Gift Lays the Foundation for Rebuilding Lives

Your gift goes toward two ongoing restoration projects. The first is the physical restoration of Our Lady of the Holy Spirit facility. Much has already been accomplished. The German stained glass windows are intact, as is the exquisitely hand-carved wooden door to the chapel, also from Germany. The main marble altar was rescued from Mt. Adams' Holy Cross Monastery. A Chaplet of the Holy Spirit is completed in the Holy Spirit Hall.

To realize its full potential, the Center needs to restore the former dormitory rooms to rooms that can be used by residents and retreat guests. Windows, heating and cooling systems, plumbing, ceilings and walls must be replaced throughout the facility. Your gift goes toward the purchase of the construction materials and equipment needed to make these essential improvements.
